Today, Cyber PolCo's website goes live. But this isn't really a story about a website. It's a story about a gap: the widening distance between how fast Central and Southern Africa are going digital, and how ready we are to defend what we're building. We started closing that gap in Windhoek, Namibia, in 2024. In 2025, we planted a second flag in Mbujimayi, in DR Congo's Kasaï-Oriental province, where, as far as our own research can tell, we may be among the very first formally registered cybersecurity companies in the entire province. 🇨🇩🇳🇦
That's not a mere statistic. It's a signal of how young this industry still is here, and how much work there is to do.
The numbers don't lie. Across the continent, organisations now face an average of 3,153 cyberattacks per week, about 60% higher than the global average, according to Check Point Research. INTERPOL's 2025 Africa Cyberthreat Assessment Report found that cybercrime now makes up more than 30% of all reported crime in Western and Eastern Africa, with an estimated US$3 billion in cumulative losses across the continent since 2019. Only 3 in 10 African countries even have a formal system for reporting cyber incidents.
Closer to home, in December 2024, Namibia's state-owned telecom operator was hit by a ransomware group that exfiltrated over 626GB of data.
Why this matters to you, specifically:
👤 If you're an individual: DR Congo now has over 34 million active mobile money accounts, and Namibia processed nearly 100 million electronic money transactions in a single year. Every one of those transactions is a potential target for fraud and phishing. Your phone is your bank now. It deserves to be protected like one.
🏢 If you're one of our clients, or considering becoming one: Africa has roughly 7,000 certified cybersecurity professionals for a continent of 1.4 billion people, about one for every 177,000 of us. 🏛️ If you represent a government agency or institution: DR Congo currently ranks 179th out of 193 countries on the UN's E-Government Development Index, while Namibia is racing to digitize 100% of government services and roll out a national digital ID by 2026. Ambitious digital transformation without matching security investment is how small vulnerabilities become national incidents.
🏦 If you're in financial services: with DRC's formal bank penetration sitting at under 10% and mobile money filling that gap at extraordinary speed, financial data in this region is more concentrated in digital channels, and more exposed, than almost anywhere else on the continent. Globally, the finance sector already carries the highest average cost per data breach of any industry.
What we actually do about it. Our services are built around that reality: cybersecurity consulting, a round-the-clock SOC/MSSP monitoring service, staff awareness training, background checks, and hands-on Starlink deployment with monthly site management for companies running satellite connectivity across multiple locations. Right now, our team is also deep in two flagship projects: a custom digital platform for a client in the tourism industry, and a security-first solution for a healthcare provider, proof that this work looks different in every sector, but the underlying stakes are the same.
